
Jonny Blair (he/him) is a Scottish–Irish filmmaker whose work spans film and television.
His debut short, The Groundsman, starred David O’Hara (The Departed) and screened at festivals worldwide, winning Best Film at the BAFTA Scotland New Talent Awards.
He went on to complete an MA in Directing Fiction at the National Film and Television School. His graduation crime-thriller, Come Out of the Woods, starred Joe Dempsie (Toxic Town) and Nico Mirallegro (Stags), and was nominated for a Royal Television Society Award.
Jonny’s directed episodes of BBC Studios & BBC Scotland continuing drama River City, he helmed multiple high-stakes series finales and earned his first writing commission.
He was recently selected for the BBC Writers Scottish Voices scheme and currently has multiple film and television projects in development.
Last year Jonny was Second Unit Director on Counsels for Balloon Entertainment & BBC One. He’s currently in pre-production on Shetland for Silverprint Pictures & ITV Studios, he’ll be directing Episodes 4 and 5 of the upcoming series.
Jonny is a member of BAFTA Connect and Directors UK.
